Friday, March 9th, 2007

Do you want to speak at the next Search Engine Bootcamp, SMX Sydney, Emarketing Expo or Search School?

I get requests from potential speakers all the time, so here is an overview of how to become part of the Search Strategies speaker family.

I’ll start with an overview of all the events.

Search Engine Bootcamp
Search Engine Bootcamp is a one day search marketing seminar designed to enhance the skills of business’s that have staff with mid level search skills. Search Engine Bootcamp is a single stream day, however, we cover all the facets of search marketing and there generally about 10 speaking opportunities available.
Cities & dates include:

2007

  • Auckland - June 21st, 2007
  • Melbourne - August 9th, 2007
  • Sydney - November, 29th 2007

2008

  • Brisbane (Travel Theme)- Febuary 14th, 2008
  • Canberra (Dot Gov Theme) - TBA
  • Auckland - July 2008
  • Melbourne - August 2008
  • Sydney - November 2008

I may be also be adding Perth & Adelaide into the Bootcamp mix.

Search Marketing Expo - SMX Sydney
Search Marketing Expo - SMX Sydney will be the new name for Australia’s leading search marketing show, Search Summit, as the result of an agreement reached by SMX-producer Third Door Media and Barry Smyth of Search Strategies.

Search Marketing Expo is the new search engine marketing conference from Third Door Media, the company behind the Search Engine Land news site and the Search Marketing Now webcast series.

Search Marketing Expo - SMX Sydney is a two-day multi-stream national conference targeted at all levels of search marketing knowlegde from beginners to the advanced search marketers, our delegates are looking for information that they traditionally have had to travel overseas to obtain, the 1st Australian event is on April 1oth & 11th 2008 at Sydney’s Iconic Luna Park.

We generally have three speakers per session plus a moderator; on a normal day there is a Keynote address, 5 sessions per stream and we end the day with all the delegates back in the main room. This last session is either a debate, panel or a Clinic.

So all up I have around 2 keynotes, 60 session speaking spots, 20 moderating spots and between 7-8 panelist spots over the course of the two days, we generally ask our speakers to moderate at least one other session that they have an interest or passion for.

Our Keynotes are by invitation only, so please do no apply for these.

Emarketing Expo @ Cebit 2008
Emarketing Expo is a joint venture project with Search Strategies and Hannover Fairs Australia, the orginisers of CeBit. Emarketing Expo is a Digital marketing conference targeted at delegates who want to build a greater understanding for all digital marketing aspects, not just search. The delegates are predominantly SME’s, the event is on May 20th 2008.

SearchSchool Series 2008
Unlike Search Engine Bootcamp or Search Summit you wont find advanced SEO or PPC topics, the agenda for Search School is specifically targeted at the entry level, covering the fundamental building blocks that you need to start a search marketing campaign for your business. SearchSchool is unique as it targets a new market of entry-level professionals in small-medium business.

Dates to be announced.

Speaking Role Overview
Do you think you have what it takes and think your capable of fitting in with our growing list of expert speakers?

I would prefer that you have some previous public speaking behind you, preferably to big crowds, we have given people without this a go in the past and it generally does not work. Send me an overview with a short background about yourself, your company and the type of work you do, please don’t send me War and Peace, a few lines to describe yourself will do the trick.

Feel free to send me your proposed presentation in PowerPoint, PDF or Word format, along with some supporting notes. An MP3 file of anything you have done in the past would be really helpful as well.

Please note that presentations for each of the events varies quite a lot:

  • Search Engine Bootcamp are 25 mins
  • SMX Sydney are only 15 minutes
  • Emarketing Expo 30 mins
  • Search School 45 mins

All end with a session for Q&A.

  • If I decide that you fit the bill I will contact you directly by phone, so don’t forget to send me all your contact details.
  • If you’re successful you will get a Full Pass to the event that you speaking at.
  • We do not provide travel or accommodation.

PLEASE NOTE: We are not into sales pitches at Search Strategies, we focus 100% on educating the delegates that come to our events, the very fact that your are speaking and giving a well thought out authoritative presentation is a sell in it self.

Search Summit 2007 Wrap Up

Sunday, March 4th, 2007

Well, what a great two days we had at Search Summit 2007 down at Luna Park, the weather worked out well for all our visiting international guests & we were able to put on one of the best ever Search Marketing Conferences in Australia, I have had a lot of positive feedback from both speakers & delegates, so thanks.

The only major hiccup we had was not having printed agendas on Day One & a small agenda change to ensure that our Day Two Panel on the Future of Digital Marketing had the attention of everyone at the Conference.

There were many highlights, including:

  • Chris Sherman’s fantastic Keynote on Search Outlook 2007
  • The lively Keynote debate on In-house vs Outsourced Search
    • This was won by the Outsource Team, as voted by the delegates after each round
    • We will post the results of this later in the week
  • All the Google Sessions were fantastic & it was great to see these guys in action
  • A particular highlight for me personally was the feedback from our delegates on all of our speakers
    • one delegate mentioned to me at the Kirribilli Hotel after the Conference that he was awe struck being around “Search Industry Royalty”

Plus we had a little controversy on day two after Marketing Pilgrims Andy Beal had a conversation with Adam Lasnik about Google’s stance on paid links, Adam made the comment - “I wish nofollow didn’t exist”. Adam later clarified his point on Andy’s Blog.

Robbie Hills, the Sales & Marketing Director of Australia’s largest independent search marketing company, 24/7 Real Media, has been promoted to Managing Director.

Hills’ appointment comes as the incumbent Managing Director of Australia, Ian Leuchars, moves to a senior role with 24/7 Real Media’s New York head office.

Hills takes up his position in early March and will report to Leuchars in New York. Hills joined 24/7 Real Media in July, 2006 to the newly-created position of Sales & Marketing Director. He has a 15 year career in sales and marketing in both the online and offline media space.

He was the former acting Group Manager and National Sales Director for Sensis MediaSmart, Display & Search. Hills also worked at LookSmart Australia for five years as Sales Manager, Sales Director and then General Manager – Major Accounts. “I am thrilled to be offered the opportunity to head 24/7 Real Media here and to further grow our ever-expanding business.

We will be launching two new exciting digital divisions in Australia this year. Ian has been a great mentor and I am looking forward to continuing to work with Ian in his new role,” Hills said. “I anticipate that the growth of search marketing will continue its steep upward trajectory this year. We believe that Paid Search and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) will continue to grow at high double digit levels in 2007. 24/7 Real Media will look to continue to increase its market share both here in Australia and across the South East Asian region.”

Leuchars joined 24/7 Real Media in 2004 as General Manager and became Managing Director in August 2005. During his time with 24/7 Real Media, the business has experienced strong growth and globally was named as the top paid search marketing provider in Jupiter Research’s 2006 Search Engine Marketing (SEM) Agency Constellation report.

Editors note: Having worked with Robbie in the past I wish him all the best in his new role & look forward to hearing him speak at Search Summit, Australia’s 1st Search Conference of 2007.
